The Tanzania Anti-Travel-Travel Guide

Hello everyone, my name is Kevin. In this series of articles, I want to give you a non-linear view of what it is really like to be a tourist in Tanzania. Most online information such as Lonely Planet gives you no idea of what life is like in Tanzania, it only tries to sell a product to wealthy, primarily white tourists. It is ‘disconnected’ to say the least.I use the phrase ‘’Anti-Travel Travel’ in the title of this blog because my travel style very often brakes standards set by mainstream travel culture.

The guide you are reading now is made for people of all nationalities looking to visit Tanzania in hopes that the reader and Tanzanians will be able to have mutually beneficial and positive interactions based on the knowledge gained from my writings. Out of the handful of countries I’ve traveled to Tanzania is the one that has lured me in the most with its massive diversity and an overwhelming sense of friendliness and I want people from every nationality to understand the magic of Tanzania as I do.

Traveling in East Africa has changed my life, I first step foot in Kenya in 2016 then Tanzania in 2017. I volunteered for various educational organizations and being welcomed by so many schools, churches, and families was truly a humbling experience that I have gained and learned so much from. Since then I have traveled to Tanzania countless times and have spent about 2 years collectively in the country. I have so many friendships in TZ that are just as real(if not stronger) as my childhood friendships in America. I am passionate about how fantastic Tanzania is, and I want to share my knowledge with you.

My writings are not intended to be white-washed, post-colonial, supportive of the white savior mentality, or trying to put anyone down, they are just my own honest experiences. I will continually upload different topics such as language, economics, food, travel activities, local culture, leisure and so much more.
